Email Setup Assistance

The Information Technology Department (IT) is pleased to announce the faculty and staff migration to Office 365 (O365) for email and calendaring.  The migration began in February 2016 with the IT Department moving to O365 in order to identify and resolve issues, examine use cases, and construct materials in preparation for the wider migration.  The remainder of the community will be migrated in phases by department from now until the end of the 2016 Summer Session in August.  IT will be in touch with individual deparments to schedule their migration.

What will be migrated?

The migration to O365 is for email and calendaring only.  This simply involves moving email and calendaring from on-premises, meaning the service or core infrastructure (hardware and software) are physicallly located on campus, to off-premises where the service is hosted in the cloud and the core infrastructure will be administered by Microsoft.

All other Microsoft Office products will remain as they are today with the addition of Online Office, Lync, and SharePoint, which arepart of the O365 suite of products.

Why migrate to Office 365?

Migration to Office 365 will improve email reliability, performance, enhance collaboration, and will result in immediate cost savings for the university as O365 is a free service offered by Microsoft.  In addition, O365 will allow us to move forward with our cloud-hosted strategy by decommissioning on premises infrastructure once this migration is complete.

What are the benefits?

  • Much larger email storage capacity- 50 GB

  • File attachment size up to 25 MB

  • Enhanced rich web interface for the Outlook Web Application (OWA)

  • 1 TB of OneDrive storage, accessible across devices and off-campus

  • Integrated Skype messaging

How will you know when you are migrating and what will you need to do?

Communications with additional details about the migration will be sent to you and your department prior to your migration date.  We are working with department heads across the university on the migration strategy in order to minimize disruption within your areas.
